Un-loading

Our first sight of a real New York pigeon. Just like on Sesame Street. Hello, Bert!

We were surprised to be able to park right in front of the building. Someone had to stay with the van the whole time so we could not all go up together.

A good view of the stupid hitch I have been complaining about for 3 days. Notice how it is barely above the road!

Gross, I'll admit, but once we unloaded the van we discovered what the cats had used as a litter box. A storage area in the far back of the van.

This is the welcome sign on our apartment. It listed each of our names.

Kevin's first look at the apartment. Notice it is still clean and empty in this picture. You won't see it like this again!
Kevin and Katie went up first while Serena stayed with the van.
Kevin's first impression was of nostalgia. The building is very old. His next thought was that Serena would cry when she saw it. Katie thought it was cook, but wanted the master bedroom becasue it was so big. Abby didn't have any comment but it quickly becomes obvious she likes the couch and the cable tv.

After kevin and Katie made a few trips Serena went up. The building was very old. There was a policeman at the door, not just a doorman. Serena was quite upset to learn that she has to sign in as Kevin's guest even though she lives there. The elevators are very old as well- wood and metal. The hallway is long adn the floor is tiled. At the end of the hallway is their apartment door. It also is old and there are cracks in the paint around the door frame. Katie has the key and is unable to get the door open. Serena tries and can't get it either. They go back downstairs where Serena stays until the U-Haul is unloaded. She does not aadjust well to new things and the stress of the trip was enough. She knew she could not handle the new door, lobby, elevator, hall, door plus the apartment. So, she, Abby, and Lilly unloaded the van and trailer and filled large bins and Katie and Kevin took the bins upstairs and unloaded them. By the time everything was done Serena was used to the street and ready to try the inside of the building again.
During unloading a policeman removed the no parking signs and so the van could be left where it was unattended. The last trip the family went up together.
