Nilla probably starting to feel claustrophobic! She is laying on the middle seat next to Lilly's car seat and resting her head on the box of Lilly's toys. Every inch of the van was crammed with stuff.
These are some views of the hills we passed. At times they would rise way up on either side of the road. Very beautiful.
Tiger gets a turn sitting on Lilly's lap.
We stop at 3:40 pm and put gas in the van and get dinner, our first hot food on the trip. Mc Donald's of course. We always take long stops. We have to unload everyone, pets included, and all go to the bathroom. Each stop we clean out the van and rearrange in an attempt to make more room. Kevin checks the hitch and the air in the tires. These are a constant worry and at this stop Kevin calls U-Haul and Progressive to confirm our road side assistance coverage.
On the road again and the pets go to sleep. Alyss and Tiger have adjusted to traveling with no more puking or crying. At 4:40 we get on Interstate 270. When we hit a bump Lilly says, "Uh-oh!" Kevin and Serena constantly watch the mirrors to be sure the trailer looks okay and is still attached.
Lilly has a book that says, "Bye-bye bookworm." She started responding with "Bye book."
At 5 pm we get on Interstate 70 east. Lilly is fussy and Serena reads to her. Lilly is not content with long stories and so Serena says nursery rhymes. She is tired and sings very off key. Kevin can't help laughing and joins in by singing in as squeaky a voice as he can make. Lilly manages to fall asleep any way.
We pass a wreck and then construction so there is a long slow stretch. The hitch keeps hitting the road during the bumpy construction which is really nerve-racking. Katie and Abby are still playing really nicely together but get louder and louder.
It is 6 pm and Serena and Kevin are both really sleepy again. Madeline (cat) lays on the dashboard and takes a bath and nap. We drive over several bumpy patches in the road with no problems. Serena announces the hitch is just tempermental, although Kevin figures there is some physics problem that explains when it hits. We pass Cambridge, Ohio before deciding to stop for a nap.
