The police took down the no parking signs and the street quickly filled up with cars. Do you see how closely they park to each other!!!! The picture on the left shows the front of our green van. The picture on the right is the car parked behind the U-Haul trailer. Obviously we could not get out to return the trailer. Serena suggested unhitching the trailer since it was light enough to pull by hand, then getting the van out. Kevin wouldn't try it because the street was on a steep hill and the trailer would have rolled right into the car behind us. The U-Haul was due back by 10:30 Saturday morning. So we all go back upstairs and wait for someone to move.
Kevin had to go to new resident orientation at 7pm on campus. We could see him through our window and in the building across the street. The kids were tired so Serena stayed home with them and fell asleep with Lilly. Kevin picked up hamburgers and fries at the small store/ deli nearby. We got back up when he got home and ate supper.
The next day we resumed our watch of the van. 10:30 am came and went. At 6:30 Saturday evening a car moved and we were ready. Kevin ran down to the street and pulled the van out. Serena gathered up the kids and met him down there. Thus began our second adventure driving through New York city. We live on 121st Street. U-Haul was located at 230th Street. We got a nice scenic tour of Harlem and the Bronx. Kevin completed his initiation into city driving and could change lanes/ weave in and out with the best of them. He also yelled at another driver to hurry up. We made notes of where stores were as we went. Found our first New York McDonald's, also a Target and a Staples. The stores were way to far away to walk too. Saw a sign, "Don't Honk $350 fine" also an "Emergency Organ Transport" vehicle complete with lights and sirens like an ambulance. Kevin said he can't get used to the thousands of people on the street all of the time. We return the U-Haul and pay $20 because it was 8 hours late. Boy were we glad to be rid of that thing!
