Saturday the church took a group apple and pumpkin picking. Katie went to the Bronz Zoo with her Girl Scout troop but the rest of us went. We drove and took 2 people and another van went with about 6 people. Two other couples drove themselves for a total of 16 people. It was in Yorktown Heights, about an hour north, still on the island. It was a beautiful drive. On the map, we started at the southern part, point A, and drove north. Kevin said it was like driving through the Shawnee Forest in Illinois. Either side of the road was just trees, beautiful mountains covered in trees. Being fall there were all different colors. Abby and Lilly rode i nthe far back seat and the pastor Krysten and intern Takako rode inthe middle seat. On the trip there Abby started cryign and sayign her head hurt. She and Krysten managed to trade seats as we were going down the interstate. Good thing! Pretty quickly she had to throw up. Thankfully there was a small brown paper bag from a doughnut Kevin had bought on the way to work one day. Serena held the bag and Takako rubbed her back and poor Krystin in the backseat covered her ears and turned her head. I am glad we did not need a bag for the back seat as well. Kevin out the windows down which helped tremendously. After that Aby felt better and spent the rest of the trip becoming best friends with Takako. She is an intern at the church and participates in the services similar to a liturgist. Lilly slept most of the trip there and back.
When we arrived we rode a tractor pulled wagon out to the field. The trees were picked bare! We walked around trying to find a tree that still had an apple on it and weren't successful. It was very disaapointing. There were 3 barrels full of apples so we filled our bags from those. It was COLD! Abby was in shorts because she outgrew her pants and we haven't been able to get bac kto Target yet to get her some new jeans. Lilly was in her winter coat and her nose was red as the apples.
There was also a pumpkin patch but we will get pumpkins later in the month. Abby went in te store with some others from the church and got to taste an aple cidar doughnut. Yum! I remember getting those as a child.
