Baking

We worked on a care package to send home. We made bread and rolls, coffee cake, and several kinds of cookies. This is my favorite cookbook. It is really old (1942) so some of the terms are different than those used today. It has all kinds of homemade goodies such as pancakes (griddle cakes) and doughnuts made from scratch.

I have lost my bread recipe so used the one in the cookbook. The rolls are Grandma Hickman's recipe.

These are the rolls fresh out of the oven as well as the peppermint cookies. The kids and I love this recipe. It is fun to decide on the colors and roll the dough together. Each cokie is a little different. We made pink and blue this time for Kierra and Kaden.

We made the great discovery that bread dough rises well on the space heaters!

This was a fabulous soup recipe I made for the first time.
Saute 7 ounce chicken ( I used cooked), 1/2 cup onion, and 1/2 teaspoon garlic. When onion is tender, stir in 2 cups milk, 1 can of cream of chicken soup, 1 tablespoon parsley, 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper, 7 ounce corn with red peppers, a small can of diced green chilies, and 1 small chopped tomato. Simmer about 5 minutes. Stir in 1/2 cup monterey jack cheese and cook until cheese is melted. Serve with cornbread.

This soup and homemade bread has been so good after coming home from long walks in the cold. We have had chili frequently the last few weeks as well. I may start trying other soup recipes.
