Sightseeing

Tuesday: Katie, Lilly, and I planned an all day sight seeing tour. We packed our lunches, wrapped up in our warmest winterwear, and map in hand we set out. The highlighted area is the NYC window decoration tour. The bus we are familiar with only went to 41st and 7th Avenue, so that is where we started. You can find it on the map here. We then walked east on 41st to Bryant Park, Grand Central Station and the Chrysler Building. Then back to Fifth Avenue and up to 50th Street. We caught the bus home at 49th and 8th Avenue. We only saw one store's windows, but everything is new to us, so we were delighted with everything we saw.

Katie waiting at the bus stop near our house. This is on Broadway, don't remember the cross street, around 119 or 120th.

Inside the bus. KAtie chose seats along the back wall of the bus facing straight forward. At the steps, marked by the yello line, is a back door to exit the bus. There was a mchine by the driver where you scan your MetroCard when you get on. It is the same price whether you ride one block or to the end of the island. Some seats face forward and some face sideways. Unusual to be so empty. It filled up as we went.

Katie and Lilly enjoying the ride. We saw all kinds of new things out the windows ans it was SO NICE to not worry about driving in city traffic and navigating the roads and parking.

Below is the Christopher Columbus statue in the center of Columbus Circle by Central Park. It is so tall I couldn't get a picture of the top from the bus.

Our first view of Times Square! We were amazed!!!! Much cleaner and quieter than I expected. It was just fun. No fear. Nicer part of town. Tourist everywhere. Plus I am used to walking around town on foot with the kids now. I made sure I had really good maps and directions before I left the house. Plus we had nothing to steal so no worries about the crowds. Camera looped on my wrist and our Metro Card was zipped in my coat pocket. It would be so easy to pick pockets in these crowds. People crammed so close together on the bus and on the streets.

We have so much to show that I am dividing it up by each place we went today.
