Facing the Rockefeller Center. My back is to Fifth Avenue. The flags go around the ice skating rink which is set down below street level.
We did not plan to visit during this outing, but later with Kevin and Abby. It was so beautiful it just drew us in from across the street. Definately my favorite part of the trip.
It was very neat here, but I thought the ice rink at Bryant Park was prettier.
This picture was taken in front of Saks facing the Rockefeller Center across the street.
You can go to the "Top of the Rock" and take pictures, but we didn't do this. Can you get a feel for how high the building is? Makes the ones in our neighborhood seem very small!
Rockefeller has an ice rink and during December has a HUGE Christmas tree. Rockefeller was built in 1930 and features the world famous rockettes.
Kevin and I have agreed how amazing it is that things man-made could be so beautiful (not counting art and music, of course, clearly gifts from God.) I never expected to see beauty in the skyline coming across the bridge or in the buildings, but I have just been amazed. (I suppose I am gaining a new appreciation for architecture!) I hope you are able to appreciate it at least a little through our pictures and videos.

We saw 3 horses today but always from the bus and we were unable to get pictures. Two were police riding horses down the street. One was pulling a carriage. We also saw carriages being pulled by men on bikes.

We plan to do more sight seeing in the next week as we prepare to leave the city and head back home to Illinois. E-mail me (s-loyd@northwestern.edu) if there are any famous attractions you are interested in and we will go if possible. Statue of Liberty and Ground Zero are still on our list. They are further south and we will hit Wall Street and Tiffany's at that time. May try to get closer to the Empire State Building as well. I think we saw it from Bryant Park but am not sure and did not get good pictures ( we were heading in the opposite direction or we would have stopped at it today). Kevin wants to take us through the Lincoln Tunnel and we plan to stop in Washington DC while we are this close. I also plan to take the girls to Central Park.
